-Encouragements To Reflect On-

  • A “Diggin’ The Scene…Woo-Hoo” Thankfulness

For men shall be unthankful (2 Timothy 3:2 NKJV).

When things are going well it is easy to be thankful and show gratitude BUT how about when things are not so well?

The Greek word acharistos signifies unthankful or ungrateful. When you place the focus on blessings you do not have then acharistos can pre-empt your happiness. You may feel sorry for yourself or think that others are more blessed than you.

But when you remove that type of focus, just like removing the ‘a’ prefix, you become charistos thankful.

It’s like David says, “Bless the Lord…and forget not all his benefits.” (Psalms 103:2). Even in difficulty, David was reminded of God’s goodness and it created in him a thankful and grateful heart.

When that happens, consider the lyrics of the ‘oldie-goldie’ by William DeVaughn’s Be Thankful for What You Got

You may not drive a great big Cadillac – Gangsta whitewalls, TV antennas in the back
You may not have a car at all -But remember brothers and sisters, You can still stand tall
Just be thankful, for what you’ve got. Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac

Diamond in the back, sunroof top; Diggin’ the scene with a gangsta’ lean woo-hoo

That WOO HOO expresses a grateful mindset!

That WOO HOO is not predicated on worldly attainment!

That WOO HOO is a charistos or thankfulness!

    Thoughts To Consider

    1. Do your words say, and action exhibit, charistos not acharistos.
    2. Based on Philippians 4:12 can you be thankful whether you get a job or lose a job, get married or get divorced, buy a nice car or have a car in need of repair, flourish as a Christian or suffer as a Christian?
